Notes about bike rentals
Since early 2011, we have been providing very limited rentals to non English-speaking customers, especially clients from Germany, France, Poland, Czech Republic and Russia. There is no prejudice or racism behavior. The reasons are either language difficulties or too high expectations. We know bikes in Vietnam are ways from new conditions, but to be honest we own the best available in Vietnam.
We provide 90% fully guided tours and only 10% rentals (unguided trips) so we are likely booked out quite early before. We don't assist in timing and routing of self guided trips.
Please note that we don't offer one-way rentals as we have only one office in Hanoi. Many clients asked if we could deliver or collect bike(s) in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City - HCMC) or anywhere other than Hanoi and we are sorry to say "NO". All rentals start and end in Hanoi.
We don't rent bike(s) to inexperienced/novice rider(s) as Vietnam is not a place to learn or test your riding skills. If you want to hire a 250cc trail bike, make sure you are over 1.75m or have had good riding history or ride/own one like this. Even if you send a deposit to book our bike(s), we won't refund if you can't ride the bike(s) reserved.
We don't offer 24 hours rental service. If you pick up the bike anytime before 5pm you pay for the full day. If you pick up at mid day on the first day and return mid day on the next day we charge two days, not one day. The minimum of a rental is at least 4 (four) days.
You need to send full rental fee deposit before collecting the motorcycle(s)/motorbike(s)/scooter(s). No deposit refund if you cancel the booking or after you pick up the rented vehicle(s).
Last yet importantly, don't start off on an automatic, step-over scooter. These things have hair trigger acceleration, usually no foot break, and the front wheel turns too easily. Start on a 100 cc bike with semi-automatic (clutch-less) gears. The discipline of changing gears means you will build up to speed more slowly, and therefore, more safely. The front wheel is easier to control smoothly, and you all have that foot-break instinct from your first push bike when you were kids. And don't fear the models with a clutch. It doesn't take that long to get used to it, and it gives you more control and smoother shifting.
- Enduro bikes: Honda trail bike Baja XR 250cc, made in Japan in 1999, XL Degree made in Japan in 1994, TLR 200cc made in Japan in 1983. Honda dirt-bike XL 125cc, made in Japan in 2000. Day rate from 25$US (125cc) to 45$US (250cc).
- Motorcycles: Honda road bike 160cc GL Pro Neotech, made in Indonesia in 1998. Day rate: 20 USD.
- Motorbikes (mopeds): Honda semi-automatic scooters Wave, Wave RS, Wave RSX, 2005 & 2008 Wave RSV Repsol 100-110cc and Honda Future Neo 125cc. Made in Vietnam in between 2008 and 2010. Monthly rate from 40-80 USD with 1,500km limited monthly mileage. We don't rent this type of bike if you ride to the Northern mountains or down to South Vietnam (unlimited mileage).
- Scooters: Honda Fuma Euro 3 125cc, made in China in 2007, monthly rate is 80 USD. Honda RSX AT 110cc, made in Vietnam in 2010, monthly rate is 80 USD. Honda SHi 125cc, made in Vietnam in 2010, monthly rate is 300 USD. Monthly limited mileage is 1,500km. We don't rent this type of bike if you ride to the Northern mountains or down to South Vietnam (unlimited mileage)
The following are the most typical bikes we rent out. We also have fancier bikes at your request but the quantity is limited. Let us know where you are riding to and we will send you the details of the bike that we think suitable.
It really is a confidence inspiring bike to ride. It's easy to get seen by car drivers because of it's height and bright single (XR), it also makes for excellent visibility. It goes round corners better than most of bikes available in Vietnam - faster, more lean angle and really easy to flick side to side.
Made in 1998, Honda XR Baja 4-stroke, 250cc is a true motocross for Vietnamese off-road ridings where power is what you need to get over dirt roads. However, this bike is ideal for riders from 1.85m and experienced bikers.
Made in 1994, Honda Degree is liquid cooled with 250cc single cylinder. It's a bit lower than Honda XR and ideal for riders below 1.8m, especially for women. As it's lighter, it's very easy to ride this bike and you don't need to be very experienced.
Today, the minimum a serious long distance traveller would use is around 650cc, however most travellers are riding from 750 to 1200 cc bikes, preferably shaft driven. (BMW is far the most popular bike followed by Honda Transalp and Africa Twins, Kawasaki and Yamaha 650 and 750 Enduro's etc). During the 70's most of the trips were done on 250 cc bikes. At that time the Yamaha XT250 and Honda XL were the most popular bikes. However, Vietnamese speed limit is from 25 to 80km/hour, therefore we found out that 250cc is the maximum our riders need for a great trip at reasonable price.

A good, well maintained dirt (trail) bike is the cornerstone of every enjoyable enduro tour.
As always, this is a compromise between bike purchasing cost (we're not sponsored by any motorcycle company - the touring business here is too small to be attractive for any bike manufacturer), bike operating cost, availability of spare parts, reliability and the "fun factor" of the bikes.
Considering all this, we purchased four-stroke Honda XL 125, which are fairly lightweight, durable, and a barrel of fun.
Made in 2000, Honda XL 125s 4-stroke, 125 cc is a real motocross for Vietnamese mountain roads where power means nothing as roads are small and have many blind curves.
The only issue for this bike is the ability of local mechanics when the bike breaks down. The system is somewhat different to other bikes and they usually install something not correct. Please call us for assistance and instructions when you have trouble.
